REPORT : 12th October 2019, Pantai Bagan Lalang, Selangor

MY Clean Beach organized another clean beach program on the 12th of October 2019. Held at the coastal of Straights of Malacca, Pantai Bagan Lalang (Sepang) which is overlooking stretches of dragon fruit plantation, is famously known for team building events and family fest.

The work began at 8.30 before the temperature began to soar and ended 3 hours later with 151.60 kg masses of garbage collected by the volunteers. Our focus was more on the students who joined us from University Malaya, SEGI College and Sunway College. Hence, we took the opportunity to educate them through a deeper understanding of ways to protect our ocean ecosystem and environmental threat. Most of these students who joined us are currently part of an environmental project at their University.

We took the opportunity for the volunteers to collect trash from 2 different parts of the beach: the mangrove area and the local visitor’s area for them to see the different kinds of trash that are available: trash brought from the ocean and trash littered by beach visitors. Together we agreed and started 30 days No Straw Challenge.

We hope that this effort will continue to set an example for the public who enjoy pristine blue beaches and also to reduce the single-use plastics.
